- Course objectives
- Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the problems of flood risks in the context of Czech and EU legal norms. The basic concepts and procedures of risk analysis and the procedures proposed for the assessment and management of flood risks in the Czech Republic are clarified.
Within the framework of the exercises, the individual methodologies connected with the flood risk used in the Czech Republic are practically applied. Emphasis is placed on the use of GIS tools. - Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- to explain basic concepts related to flood risks
- explain basic risk analysis techniques
- using GIS tools to apply current methodologies related to flood risk issues in the Czech Republic (such as preliminary flood risk assessment, risk matrix, erosion detection, identification of critical points, risk exposure based on potential damage).

- 1. Introduction to flood risk issues
- 2. Preliminary flood risk assessment
- 3. Flood hazard maps
- 4. Semi-quantitative expression of flood risks (risk matrix method)
- 5. Risks from torrential floods
- 6. Quantitative representation of flood risks (estimation of potential damage)
- 7. Systems of measures to mitigate the negative effects of floods
