Overview of the physical properties of materials. Focused mainly on the electric, optic and magnetic properties.

  • 1. Chemical bonds, mechanic and thermal properties
    1.1 Chemical bonds in solids

    1.3 Specific heat and heat conductivity
    1.4 Phase transitions
  • 2. Electric properties
    2.1 Electric conductivity of metals, semiconductor, insulators
    2.2 Dielectric properties of insulators
    2.3 Ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials
  • 3. Optical properties
    3.1 Response function, electromagnetic wave in solid
    3.2 Electromagnetic wave on interfaces, boundary conditions
    3.3 Kramers-Kronig relations
    3.4 Lattice absorption, polar crystals
    3.5 Optical response of free electrons, metals
    3.6 Optical response of bonded electrons, inteband transitions
    3.7 Optical properties of transmissive materials, glasses
  • 4. Magnetic properties
    4.1 Diamagnetism and paramagnetism
