Course objectives
Students develop their speaking skills and their vocabulary by studying issues such as idioms, proverbs, similes, collocations, etc. Activities will vary from week to week. As students are being trained to be English teachers, they will be expected to take an active role in their own learning, with an eye toward understanding how to share information with their peers, and later their own students.At the end of the course students will be able to (SWBAT) understand and explain English idioms, similes, proverbs, etc.; SWBAT prepare a vocabulary exercise of their own and present it to their peers. SWBAT design a lesson plan teaching a particular set of vocabulary of their own choice.
Syllabus
  • Session 1 - Test your vocabulary (introduction and summary)
  • Sessions 2 - 4: Collocations (where to find them, both books and online sources, how to teach them, how to choose the vocabulary to suit a particular level) Sessions 5 - 7: Phrasal verbs Sessions 8 - 9: New words in English Sessions 10 : Idiomatic expressions Session 11 -13: Micro-teaching (presentations of students' own activities, sharing experience, feedback)
