Prerequisites
Grammar school or similar type with biology education
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The subject should provide an overview of basic knowledge from molecular and cell biology and human genetics. At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain basic terms of molecular biology, cell biology and human genetics - biopolymers, transcription and translation of genetic information, DNA replication, cell organelles, biomembranes and transport of solutes, cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis, secretion pathway and endocytosis, cell differentiation, stem cells, oncogenic transformation, genotype a fenotype, alelles, Mendel laws, dominant and recessive inheritance, autosomal and sex-linked traits, molecular diagnostics of hereditary diseases; use of the new knowledge for solving problems in practical classes; use of the new knowledge for easier understanding of other subjects -biochemistry, physiology, histology and pathology; understand more new trends in molecular medicine
Syllabus
