Course objectives
The students attend the course Human physiology I at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University. The main objective of the course is to introduce to the students the basic physiology of man. At the end of this course the students should be able to: define and explain general and systemic physiology; understand and explain physiological principles; describe the types of intercellular communication; explain the basics of electrical information transmission; discuss physiology of the heart; describe the physiology of blood circulation.
Syllabus
  • Body composition and functional organization
  • Intercellular contacts and signalization. Electronical transmission of information.
  • Physiology of the heart. Transfer system. Electrophysiology of the heart muscle.
  • Electrocardiography. Mechanics of the cardiac activity.
  • Cardiac cycle. Coronary circulation.
  • Microcirculation. Blood pressure regulation. Blood flow regulation. Regional circulation.
  • Variability of circulatory parameters. Reflexive regulation of blood circulation. Blood types.

Assessment methods
The basic theoretical knowledge is tested on regular basis in the course Human physiology I - practical training. The course is followed by a course Human physiology II, concluded with an oral exam.
