Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand pathogenity and virulence of bacteria, secretion of microorganisms from body; to understand normal body microflora, ethiology, diagnostics and basics of therapy of diseases of individual organ systems, including viral, fungal and parasital agents; work with information on basics of rational antimicrobial therapy; to understand hospital infections and their causative agents. The main objectives of the course are practical skills for profesion in laboratory of clinical microbiology.
Syllabus
  • Ordinary functioning of the laboratory of clinical bacteriology, algorithmic diagnostics, consequences;
  • Compendium of clinically relevant bacteria;
  • Compendium of antibiotics;
  • Respiratory tract infections and their etiological agens**;
  • Digestive tract infections and their etiological agens**;
  • Urinary tract infections and their etiological agens**;
  • STD and their cultivable agens Infections of skin, tissues and injuries and their etiological agens**;
  • Infections caused by hardly cultivable bacteria (mycobacteria, spirochetes, mycoplasma, rickettsial species, chlamydial species)**;
  • Antigens and antibodies and their efficiency in diagnostics;
  • Passive and active immunization;
  • The overview of the human viral infections**;
  • Mycotic and parasitic human infections**;
  • Antimicrobial therapy in practice, antibiotic centres;
  • Nosocomial infections**;
  • **In these lectures will be given compact overview of pathogens, of the treatement and medication, prevention and epidemiology, symptoms by the use of schemes and images from the clinical practice

practical and theoretical examination; theoretical examination comprises from 3 questions; there are 152-200 questions amount in full

Teacher's information
Výuka probíhá každoročně, zpravidla v podzimním semestru.

Výuka probíhá v prostorách Mikrobiologického ústavu LF MU a FN u sv. Anny v Brně, Pekařská 53, budova H, vchod H2, studenti se shromáždí v šatně před praktikárnou. V praktikárně probíhá přednáška i cvičení.

Výuka je určena pro studenty obecné biologie se zaměřením na mikrobiologii. Mohou ji navštěvovat i studenti bakalářského studia buněčná a molekulární diagnostika, musí ale počítat s tím, že ne všemu budou rozumět.
