Course objectives
Basic laboratory course of analytical chemistry will prepare students for work in analytical laboratory and these skills can be applied in furher study. Main objectives of the course can be summarized as follows: to perform qualitative analysis, gravimetric analysis, volumetric analysis (acidimetric, redox and chelatometric). The course will help to understand basics of instrumental analysis and results evaluation.
Syllabus
  • QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS 1. Analytical reactions of kations and anions I. 2. Analytical reactions of kations II. 3. Quantitative analysis - basic operations 4. Gravimetric determination of Fe in pigment as Fe2O3. 5. Iodometric titration. Determination of Vitamin C in pharmaceuticals and fruits. 6. Chelatometry. Determination of Ca and Mg in water and shell. 7. Statistical data evaluation - argentometric determination of chloride in urine. 8. Spectrophotometry. Determination of Fe in natural water. 9. Atomic absorption and emission spectrometry. Determination of Zn and K in multivitamins. 10. Potentiometric and conductimetric titration. Determination of phosphoric acid in Cola beverages.. 11. Determination of beta-carotene in juice by extraction spectrophotometry. 12. Excursion - instrumental methods of analytical chemistry (AAS, AFS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, LIBS, MFS, MAS, HPLC, GC, CE, LIF, MALDI-MS etc.).
