Course objectives
The aim of the course is to prepare students to apply theoretical knowledge and practical experience in their own scientific and research work.
Syllabus
  • • ICP-MS fundamentals, Operation and performance of ICP-MS, SW, HW, Instrument adjustment and performance for solution analysis, instrument routine maintenance, data acquisition, error messages and troubleshooting, logbook. • Operation and performance of LA (213 nm, 193 nm), basics of LA operation, SW, HW, connecting of LA with ICP-MS in various combinations of ICP-MS and LA, sample preparation and positioning in ablation chamber, spot and raster analysis, line scan analysis. • Method creation for solution analysis, importance and implementation of internal reference/standard, spectral interferences, their detection, evaluation and correction/minimization, collision\reaction cell tuning, PN-ICP-MS calibration, preparation of standard/sample solutions, blank solution. • Method creation for LA-ICP-MS, adjustment and optimization of LA-ICP-MS, calibration using synthetic reference materials, data acquisition and treatment at spot analysis, quantification, internal standard application, fractionation. • Elemental mapping with LA-ICP-MS, data acquisition and treatment at grid of points and line-scan. • Examples of practical methods.
