Course objectives

The students win a basic competence in the syntax of contemporary Czech language, in the syntactical terminology, in the methodology of the analysis of the syntactical units and elements of the sentence. During the early lessons the students recognize the expressing of the attitudes of the speakers and the modality of the sentence. Than the students shall make analysis of the structure of the sentence, recognize the elements of the sentence (subject, object, circumstance, attribute, verbal attribute), the syntactical relations between/among the elements of the sentence and make graphical depiction of the sentence structure.

Syllabus

1. The Sentence as a grammatical unit, sentence as a communicative unit. Communicative function of the sentence, proposition of the sentence. Modality of the sentence. 2. Modality of the attitude of the speaker. Language meaning of the attitude of the speakers (particles, interjection; voice of the verbs; intonation) in the text. 3. The voluntary modality of the sentence (eventuality, necessity, intention). The modality of the sureness. The language means of the modality. 4. Interpretation of the lexical, grammatical and phonetic language means of the expression of the communicative function of the sentence. 5. Sentence. The elements of the sentence and word category. Syntactical function of the word categories. Transposition among word categories. 6. Syntactical relations (coordination, subordination, apposition, predication). 7. Completed analysis of the sentence, analytic methods. Graphical scheme of the structure of sentence. 8. Subjective and non-subjective sentences. Equivalent of the sentence, their meaning and function. 9. Valence of the predicative verb, the grammatical structure of the sentence, the classification of the valence-structure of the sentence. Terminology of the valence syntax. 10. Some irregularities in the structure of the sentence. 11. Functional perspective of the sentence. Word-order.

Assessment methods (in Czech)

Typ výuky: Seminář. Předmět je ukončen zkouškou. Předpokladem pro připuštění ke zkoušce je úspěšné zvládnutí písemky zaměřené na látku semináře v průběhu semestru. Obsah zkoušky je dán obsahem osnovy předmětu a okruhy zveřejněnými na webové stránce (viz Odkaz na webovou stránku předmětu).
