Course objectives
Students will be able to explain the development of literary trends and movements in the particular period of Czech literature. They will be able to identify and analyse the style of outstanding literary personalities of the period. They will be able to interpret literary pieces as well as justify and support their views using their knowledge of literary studies. The seminar covers Czech poetry between the years 1945-1989 (including the inner differentiation between the years 1948 and 1968). The individual topics are presented in chronological order, selected chapters are chosen in order to maintain the notion of continuity of the literary process in this period. Individual seminars focus on more complex wholes (e.g. groupings of poets, works similar in themes or works of an outstanding personality of the period). Students will get a deeper insight into literary trends and movements of Czech literature after the year 1945. They will be able to identify and analyse the style of outstanding personalities of Czech post-war prose and poetry.
