Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to the development of youth literature, including the main genres of literature for children and youth as well as significant authors. The lecture in the form of selected topics covers the production in Czech literature for children and youth from the beginning till these days. The topics are organised into sections of poetry, prose (exile literature included) and a brief outline of secondary literature. It also brings an outline of the most significant genres of literature for children and young adults.

Teaching methods
Students will get an insight into the basic trends of literature for young adults in the respective period, as well as into the specific nature of the poetics of individual literary movements. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for a particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in the classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Students will present the results of their work in both written (assignment) and oral form (mini-lecture), thus enhancing their individual style and the ability of critical thinking. The emphasis is put on student´s ability to evaluate a literary work, to compare it in the context of the current Czech and world literary production and to defend their views using precise terminology. Course completition: credit Credit requirements: a review of one book for children or young adults published after 2004.
