Course objectives
The students shall intensify their knowledge of the work with Czech National Corpus (CNC); At the end of the course students should be able: 1. to undrestand problems of characteristics of corpuses, their annotations, and markings. 2. to use Czech National Corpus; 3. to look up chosen language phenomena in corpuses of written Czech - SYN 2000 a SYN 2005 as well as in corpuses of spoken Czech, e.g. ORAL 2008.

  • 1.Czech National Corpus and its representativness.
  • 2.Annotation and Czech National Corpus marking.
  • 3.Corpuses of written and spoken Czech.
  • 4.Corpus manager – searching possibilities within corpuses SYN 2000 and SYN 2005.
  • 5.Searching possibilities for lingustic phenomena from various lingustic levels within CNC.
  • 6.Use of CNC in Czech language teaching.

Teaching methods
Seminar: problem method, controlled discussion on the professional issues of the course. Working with Czech National Corpus using special tools - manager Bonito. Analysis of founded language phenomena.
Assessment methods
The subject is ended by a credit test. The students submit written papers of searched linguitic phenomena elaborated during seminars.
