Course objectives
We based this course on the theory of functional stylistics and it absorbs all the latest pieces of knowledge of the theory of text, communication theory and other scientific branches and fields dealing with interpersonal verbal communication. We focused the content on: a) Stratification of the Czech national language; expression and expressing dichotomy; style and communication norms. b) Style differentiation of the literary language focus on the functional styles and their dynamism. c) Compositional means of expression thematic, textual and tectonic, compositional schemes and models stylistic procedures and stylistic forms. In connection with this theory, we also aimed the course at practical knowledge of the stylistic differentiation of Czech in communication practice.
Syllabus
  • 1 Developing of the stylistic terminology. The main features of Czech stylistic development in the 20th century. 2 Relation of stylistics to the related scientific branches. 3 Communication and types of texts. Theoretical and practical studying of the style differentiation of the Czech language in connection with the incidence of stylistic factors. 4 Characteristic features of the selected basic functional styles, spheres of style, style levels of the linguistic devices and style norms, objective and subjective styles. 5 Temporary spheres of style and dynamism of the functional styles. 6 Constant and variable (contextual) style values in sequence to a specific text. 7 Composition of the text, structuring of the text (vertical and horizontal). Cohesion and coherency of texts. 8 Modification of the stylistic techniques in connection with the selected stylistic fragments. (e. g. essays, reports, feuilletons and others).

Assessment methods
Lesson type: seminar. (Considering the specific work with text paper, the attendance is desirable.) Subject is finished by colloquium (after the foregoing elaboration of stylistic text analysis) where the knowledge of stylistic terminology and stylistic taxonomy are required.
