Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop further knowledge about rhetoric as a science of oratory skills of public speaking continuing the subject of rhetoric I, introducing the individual phases of the speaking process and education in refined rhetorical speeches / presentations. The course deals with different components and aspects of rhetoric invention, composition, elocution, reasoning / giving arguments. The lessons focus on the functional definition of the rhetorical style, rhetorical genres and their classification and identifying. The rhetorical language devices are connected with the expressive devices of non-verbal communication.
Syllabus
  • 1 Rhetorical principles in communication practice (esp. at schools) 2 Monologue and developing a dialogue, asking questions and giving proper arguments. 3 Stylish factors; types of rhetorical texts. 4 Stylistic preconditions of a successful public speech. 5 Competition of expressive rhetorical devices, communication based on aesthetic principles. 6 The language used in rhetoric speeches (syntax, specific lexical features). 7 Practical exercises in the rhetorics.
