Course objectives

The lecture will offer information about most important trends, personalities and works of Czech literature from the postwar years to the present. The lecture presents major literary groups, individuals and institutions in the historical context (first and second wave of war prose, the journal Květen, the authors of the 1960s, literature in exile, samizdat, underground).
At the end of this course the student will be able to concentrate in the literature 2nd half of the 20th century;
to include literary works in the development of world literature;
to explain historical and social context;
to understand theoretical and aesthetic concepts;
to interpret secondary literature.
