Course objectives
At the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. identify characteristic tendencies and developmental trends in the Czech drama of 21st century, 2. interpret chosen plays that jointly form an image of the contemporary Czech drama significantly, 3. characterize the style of outstanding Czech dramatists of the period.
Syllabus
  • 1. Expressional and form possibilities in the structure of contemporary drama. 2. Subgenre drama lines. 3. Outstanding personalities of the contemporary Czech drama. 4. Interpretation of chosen dramas. 5. Secondary literature of the subject.

Teaching methods
Consultations and seminars. During consultations and seminars, students will develop their knowledge of literary history and literary studies and also their interpretation skills; they will be given an opportunity to discuss issues of contemporary drama on the basis of their own reading.
Assessment methods
Credit. Credit requirements – students are obliged to participate actively in classes and hand in a seminar paper: critical review of a chosen Czech drama, published as a book or in a magazine after 2000.
