Course objectives
At the end of the course, a participant is supposed to: - understand the essence of a three-phase model of learning and be able to use it when planning and implementing a lesson; - understand the essence of particular methods of the so called critical thinking – the aim is to develop active and effective learning and also pupils’ independent and critical thinking; - be able to use critical thinking methods in practice when developing communication and composition skills of upper primary school’s pupils.
Syllabus
  • 1. Characteristics of a three-phase model of learning (evocation – realization of meaning – reflection). 2. The creation of a suitable environment for critical thinking in lessons of Czech language. 3. Critical thinking methods and strategies leading to pupils’ active and effective learning used in communication and composition education at upper primary school. 4. Methods of assessment.

Teaching methods
Practical seminar connected with active discussions of course participants about the studied topics; presentation – an application of the discussed teaching methods and strategies; self-study – participants are given a set of selected critical thinking methods with draft proposal of their application in communication and composition education.
Assessment methods
The course is concluded with a credit. To be given a credit, students are obliged to work out a written presentation of a lesson that will be based on a model E-R-R and selected critical thinking methods.
