Course objectives
After the completion of the course the students will be able to discuss the formation of current Czech and Slovak society on the basis of miscellaneous migrations, they will be able to describe the phenomenon of migration as a research subject of social sciences.
Syllabus
  • The phenomenon of migration in the discourse of social sciences, mainly ethnology The results of the study of migrations in Czech and Slovak environments to date The ethnic image of Slovakia and the Czech lands as a consequence of miscellaneous migrations (the arrival of Hungarians into the Carpathian basin, the expulsion of the Jews and their fates in Central European diaspora, medieval German colonization) The characteristic features of the creation of collective identities of Czechs and Slovaks abroad in the specific conditions of emigrant life (Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, the USA, Argentina)
