Cíle předmětu
The main aim of this course is to complement the political-economic analysis of European integration with socio-cultural factors, and to find their mutual links (immigrants and labour market; religious communities and systems of law; cultural factors and political visions of Europe). The main stress will be put on cultural diversity in Europe, cultural and social integration strategies, and the impact of socio-cultural pluralization on the processes of law and policy making. During the course, contemporary (political and scholarly) discussions on the shape of Europe will be analyzed and discussed.

Výukové metody
Students are expected to actively participate in the course and to prepare short presentations. The first lectures and workshops are aimed at the analysis of the cultural background of particular problems, and theoretical conceptualization of the issues which will be analyzed in the second part of the course (students’ presentations).
Metody hodnocení
The final grade in this course consists of the following elements: • Assessment of the student’s participation in classes - 50% Students are expected to actively participate in the discussion on the basis of the assigned readings. One unexcused absence is allowed. • In class-presentation - 50% All students are expected to prepare presentations on selected topic. On the basis of their own research and recommended literature, students will prepare a max. 20 min presentation of a particular issue or case study. Presentations should be complemented with power point illustration and/or handouts, and should be followed by the discussion with other students.
