Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to acquaint the students with the issues of translation from English into French and its historical milestones. In the initial part of the course, we will discuss the principal grammatical, morphological, syntactic and stylistic differences between the two languages. Later, in the seminars, the students will be able to practise translation of texts from various spheres of everyday life: newspaper, administrative, juridical, economic as well as literary texts.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction 2) History of English-French translation 3) Contrastive study of French and English grammar: spelling, syntax and vocabulary 4) False friends 5) Translation of administrative texts 6) Translation of literary texts: prose, poetry and drama 7) Translation of specialized and technical texts 8) Translation of juridical texts 9) Presentations of the students' research topics 10) Evaluation
