Course objectives
The seminar follows Syntax 1 lecture and concentrates on the drill of the theoretical knowledge. At the end of this course, students should be able: to understand the structure of clauses and sentences based on the relation of syntax and morphology; to demonstrate procedures used in syntax analysis; define types of sentences; to reproduce sentence parts and word order; to analyse typology of utterance.
Syllabus
  • 1. Simple sentence monomial, binomial. 2. Expression of monomial sentence (by verb, by another word class). 3. Adjunct sentence with a general, indefinite subject. 4. Sentence with verbal, noun-verbal and non-verbal predicate. 5. Unity of predicate and subject (expression of number). 6. Co-ordinate sentence, co-ordinating relations. 7. Subordinate sentence: minor clauses according to the function. Using of senses and moods in clauses.
