Course objectives
Students will be informed about astronomy and its research methods on selected examples, see programme. Main aim is creating integrated actual astronomical picture of Universe. Objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand on selected examples physical substance of the cosmical bodies and astronomical phenomena

  • 1.Determination of distances in astronomy
  • 2.Basic parameters of stars. The third Kepler s law. Spectral classification
  • 3.The Hetzsprung-Russell diagram
  • 4.Physics of stellar interiors
  • 5.Origin, evolution, and final stadii of stars
  • 6.Stellar evolution in close binaries
  • 7.Galaxy. Stellar populations and their characteristics
  • 8.Galaxies. Quasars
  • 9.Structure of the Universe. Red shift. Hubble s Law
  • 10.The Cosmological Principle. Models of the Universe. Determinations of the Hubble Constant, decceleration parameter and average density of the Universe. The relict radiation
  • 11.The Sun and the solar system. The terrestrial planets. Cosmogony of the solar system
