Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to introduce gender as a relevant category, and one of the key criteria of social stratification. Gender plays a central role in distribution of social status both in vertical structure and in its substructures. We revise relevant theories at the beginning of the term and then we analyse particular social institutions and themes relevant to the gender structure of society, re/production, the issue of power of the social gender order and mechanisms that reproduce and challenge it.
