Course objectives
The course is based on the accepted assumption that lifestyle choices, especially the dynamics and the structure of material consumption and free-time activities, have a decisive impact on nature (apart from population size and technologies). The course seeks to find and interpret environmentally friendly lifestyle choices and stresses the connections with mainstream lifestyle choices. It also attempts to question some journalistic stereotypes.
Students will gain basic knowledge and approaches necessary for their choice of masters thesis in the area of lifestyle choices.

  • Introduction into the seminar contents and its requirements

Teaching methods
Teaching methods include:
introduction lectures about the theme of lifestyle
home preparation, reading of obligatory texts
structured discussion about the texts
seminar paper
critical review of 1 colleague´s paper
presentation of the seminar paper and its review in the lesson
critical discussion about presented papers
Assessment methods
Discussion of assigned texts, reading, writing an essay and an opponent’s statement. Participation at seminars is mandatory with a maximum of three absences allowed. To pass, students must collect at least 100 points out of 150. A total of 80 points goes to exams testing reading material (notes are allowed) throughout the semester, 60 points are assigned to the essay and 10 points to the opponent’s statement.
