Předpokladem úspěšného absolvování kursu je předcházející či průběžná návštěva kursu Úvod do studia 19. a 20. století (Úvod do moderních dějin). Je též žádoucí absolvovat předtím alespoň některý z kursů raného novověku.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is the introduction to the history of the "long" 19th century, from the French Revolution(1789)to the World War I(1914 - 1918)in political, social and cultural contexts. The development of European powers and especially the development of their political systems, the history of major ideological systems of the 19th century, the history of symbolic aspects of revolutionary events, the history of intellectual movements and cultural institutions of political importance are the main priorities. The course also focuses on the basic process concepts (revolution, secularization, nacionalism, imperialism)and topics illustrating European development (political and industrial revolution, establishing modern politics, liberalism, nacionalism, the development of national states etc.). Students will be able to understand basic trends of the long 19th century. They will be able to interpret new concepts and issues related to the period.

  • 6. Nations and national movement, idea of the national unity

  • 8. Industrial, technical and scientific revolution
