Course objectives
The subject creates the place for thematization of various modes of social existency and changing social functions of music. It brings a characterization of basic sociological aspects of common music life and offers various paradigms of qualitative and quantitative researches.
Syllabus
  • Musical sociology (position in the range of musicology and general sociology, special segmental sociology, sociology of art, sociology of culture, development aspects, relation to the other science disciplines - music pedagogy, music psychology, aesthetics, semiotics, demographics, statistics etc.) Methods and techniques of music sociology (test of the semantic selection, the semantic differential etc.) Basics of the statistical file processing Selection of the research objects - representativeness of selective files etc. Music preferences of youth (possibilities and limits in survey of attitudes in music). The position of music in the value orientation of youth. Mass music culture (characteristics of mass communication and mass music production and its functions, relationship between art and non-art music from the listener's point of view. Listeners and music in contemporary world (changes in social existence of music, value crysis, "confusion of languages" in music.
