At the end of the course students should be able to:
Skim and scan texts on Earth Science; give main ideas; make deductions from texts;
Define, classify and compare;
Speak and write about oneself, life, his or her hometown and studies, Masaryk University and field topics of this course;write CV;
Understand lectures on field topics of this course (both general and specific information);
Use specific grammar features;

  • Earth processes:
  • Weathering - physical and chemical;From rock to soil
  • Erosion by running water and wind; The formation of a river valley; Controlling erosion
  • Deposition by running water, gravity and wind;
  • Glaciers;
  • Volcanoes;
  • Earthquakes - origin and damage;Folds and faults
  • Plate tectonics;
  • GPS;

Teaching methods (in Czech)
Poslechové cvičné testy, cvičení na porozumění čteného odborného textu, písemné zpracování otázek a úkolů (název, hlavní myšlenka, shrnutí), nácvik prezentace, cílená konverzace, cvičné gramatické testy, cvičení na použití akademické slovní zásoby, e-learning - odpovědníky a dril na podporu znalosti termínů a definic daného oboru, poslechové a gramatické testy, testy na slovní zásobu.
Assessment methods
Each course is finished by a credit test. The condition for a successful finishing of the course is passing the test, 85% active attendance in the seminars and six ROPOTS on terminology.
