The course is designed for third year students of combined studies in the Public Economics and Administration field of study.

Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to understand the managerial approach to human resources management (HRM). Students will be introduced to the whole HRM process (its functions and stages) and principles of its functioning. Special attention is paid to the specifics of human resources management in NGOs and public administration.
At the end of this course, students will:
- understand the importance of HRM within the organization,
- gain an overview of the functions and individual stages of HRM,
- learn the processes and skills of HRM,
- understand the specifics of HRM in NGOs and public administration.
Syllabus
  • The content of this course is divided into two basic parts. The first part (topics 1-5) describes human resources management and its importance in organizations and the beginning stages of HRM. The second part is devoted to the next stages of HRM and their specificities in NGOs and public administration.

Assessment methods
The course has a form of a lecture. The lecture (total of 8 hours) is divided into two parts. The main emphasis is laid on self-study. The course is concluded with a written test and an oral exam. Students are eligible to take the written test provided that they fulfill given conditions:
1. they hand in two seminar papers in a given extent and structure within the obligatory date,
2. they pass two on-line tests in the IS MU during the obligatory period.

Important information! If students commit a prohibited act, such as using various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, the teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. The mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included in the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.).
