Course objectives
2. Aims of the Module • Within the framework of the active teaching the students will be given information on advanced approaches to management of changes in the public administration (non-manufacturing organizations) and techniques that enable to carry out successfully changes of strategy in practice and to decrease risk in carrying out those strategic changes. These approaches will be complemented with an analysis of several case studies in which the students will find (and subsequently generalize) the basic approaches to management of planned strategy change of a firm, or strategy of an organization part of the state administration. • The students will be introduced into concrete program tools for support of decreasing risk in carrying out strategy changes and they also be made familiar with the basic applications of artificial intelligence tools in strategic practical decision-making. With these concrete examples they will verify their gained experience that will be further developed in papers. After completion of the module the students should be able to: • To identify and to assess critically suitable methods of strategic decision-making (of irreversible nature) • To assess critically the decision-making system of an organization • To analyze change processes in non-manufacturing organizations which influence the decreasing of risk of failure of a strategic change • To analyze information risk and to suggest suitable tools for optimization of information risk of non-manufacturing organization • To analyze selected legal risks in the life of non-manufacturing organization and to get to know the basic tools of their prevention
Syllabus
  • • Change of strategy, strategic change and risk – the basic concepts • The basic techniques used in managing planned changes of non-manufacturing organization, or a part of the state administration. The basic techniques and methods of decreasing risk in management (an example of decreasing the risk of IS/IT strategy of a firm, or a non-manufacturing organization). • The basic types of strategies (brief revision). A project of strategy change model of a non-manufacturing organization. • Factors of the success (or failure) of carrying out strategy changes in a particular situation of non-manufacturing organization Methods of decreasing risk of failure in carrying out strategic change of non-manufacturing organization (examples of using mathematical models, especially the practically applicable models of artificial intelligence) • Methods of decreasing risk in individual functional strategies and their presentation in the form of concrete case studies (decreasing risk in implementing a concrete business strategy, production strategies, IS/IT strategies, decreasing risk in investment decisions) • Program tools of decreasing risk in strategy decisions of a firm. • Information risk • Law risks and their prevention • Crisis management
