Syllabus (in Czech)
  • The original motivations for Calculus of variations came from classical physics (mechanics, optics) and geometry. Since 1950 new applications to the aerospace sciences, industrial process control, and mathematical economics were found. These applications, which do not fall under the classical setting, forced the theory to extend to what is now known as the theory of optimal control.

This course is an introduction to the deterministic linear optimal control theory. The notions of controllability, attainable sets, and observability will be introduced for the linear control system. The time optimality problem is mainly the focus of this course. As necessary conditions for optimality we will prove the Bang-Bang theorem and the Pontryagin Maximum Principle.
