Course objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce esential information about the current concept of special education and its role among other scientific fields, general terminology, cathegories, methods and diagnostics in special education, integrative/inclusive education, legislation, Framework educational program for primary education, classification of impairments and disabilities, ethiology, overview of special schools an school facilities, educational-psychological counseling services.
After successful completion of the course the student is able vyspětlit basic concepts and relations in matters of education of children and pupils with special educational needs. Well versed in the basic terminology of the field, knows the current laws, it can classify the different types of disability, oriented in the survey of schools, school facilities and advisory services.
Syllabus
  • Special education – terminology, subject, aims, classification of the field, interdisciplinary relations
    1. Integrative and inclusive education of students with special needs.
    2. Legislation, Framework educational program for primary education.
    3. Family and child with healt disability.
    4. Educational-psychological counseling system – counseling services in schools, school counseling facilities, Educational-psychological counseling centers, Centers for children with disabilities, Counseling centers for children with EBD.
    5. Special education diagnostics – concept, object, aims, methods, terminology.
    6. Intellectual disability – characteristics, classificationaccording to WHO, terminology, education possibilities, false intellectual disability, Dementia, Down syndrome.
    7. Autism – characteristics, ethiology, education possibilities
    8. Physical disability – characteristics, specifications, terminology, treatment, education possibilities.
    9. Cerebral palsy.
    10. Communication with people with visual impairments.
    11. Hearing impairment – characteristics, clssification, terminology, treatment, education possibilities.
    12. Hearing aids, Cochlear implants, communication of the hearing impaired.
    13. Disturbed communication abilities - characteristics, clssification, terminology, treatment, education possibilities.
    14. Alternative and augmentative communication – characteristics of individual systems and its use.
    15. Specific learning disabilities – characteristics, classification, terminology, education possibilities.
    16. Treatment of specific learning disabilities.
    17. Emotional and behaviral disorders – characteristics, clssification, terminology, treatment, education possibilities.
    18. Therapies in special education – hipotherapy, canistherapy, music therapy, art therapy, work therapy, drama therapy.

Theoretical training in the education of children and pupils with special educational needs.

Written test - for the successful completion shall be 70 % correct answers.
