Course objectives
The contents of the Development of Managerial Skills course consists of six thematic units. The introductory part is aimed at enhancing self-knowledge conditioning adequate self-regulation and personal development along with management of psychological burdens. The next section is devoted to training and development of communication skills for business and management practices. The third part of the course focuses on increasing the efficiency of managerial work and deals with demands imposed on his/her personality. The fourth part of the course is devoted to team work management with an emphasis on the development of creative approach to problem-solving as well as dealing with increasing social sensitivity to the assessment of others and for effective negotiations with them. Motivation of human behaviour is dealt with in detail, affects on motivation and performance of employees in particular. Another part of the course deals with current issues on the labour market, methods and problems of involuntary job losses. The final part of the course provides students - potential executives - with knowledge of the environmental dimension of management.

The main objectives of the course are:
- to gain insight into the socio-cultural and managerial skills needed for management practice
- to gain self-knowledge resulting into adequate self-regulation and personal development along with management of psychological burdens
- to learn how to recognize the personality of a partner in interpersonal contact
- to develop communication skills for business and management practice
- to learn how to lead a work team with emphasis on creative solutions to problems
- to increase sensitivity to the assessment of others and effective negotiations with them
- to understand historical changes in labour and its irreplaceable role in human life
- to identify stress factors affecting health of individuals in work environment
- to understand the role and place of human culture in nature

  • 1. Content and significance of development of social and cultural managerial skills
  • *Social and psychological training - methods and techniques, information about the content of the course *Expectation of participants *Organizational questions *The importance of feedback for personal development. Discussion about criteria of evaluating presentations. *Perceiving and learning about other people. First impressions. Empathy. Faults and distortion at perceiving others. Methods of enhancing self-reflection.

  • *" Johari window" - model of personality by Joe Luft and Harry Ingham. Rules of feedback. Feedback in human communication and its training.

  • *Practical aspects of rhetorical skills. Principles of successful self-presentation. Methods of self-confidence enforcement. *Art of listening. Questioning techniques. *Training of verbal volubility. *Body language and its types. Training of social perception and non-verbal communication.

  • *Principles of communication in company (horizontal and vertical level) *Supervisor and colleagues - expressing personal opinion and decision, criticism and appreciation, breaking an unpleasant news. Teaching methods
The class consits of a self-preparation done by student at home and a consultation held at the faculty. For each consultation student is obliged to review given topics - the materials for self study are stored in the Information system (case studies, selected articles on given topics). In the class the information is delivered in the form of a lecture joined with discussions or solving a case study. A final assignment is required.
Assessment methods
Seminar work is assigned to students to carry out during the semester.
Students have to submit the seminar work to be allowed to sit the exam. The final written test consists of free answers to three questions in the time limit of half an hour. To complete the final test successfully, students have to answer at least 70% of questions satisfactorily.
Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams (credit tests) will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam (credit test) by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination.
