Course objectives
At the end of the course a student should be able to: - orient in the methodology of organizational research; - distinguish different approaches to exploring the reality; - distinguish different methodologies and strategies of research; - critically review text; - formulate a research goal of a thesis; - design a research proposal for the thesis; - create the official assignment of the diploma thesis in cooperation with a supervisor;
Syllabus
  • The teaching consists from individual consultations with the student's supervisor and from weekly lectures focusing the organizational research. The lectures will cover following topics:
  • 1. Introduction in social science research and thesis workflow.
  • 2. Literature review.
  • 3. Research proposal.
  • 4. Paradigms in social sciences.
  • 5. Qualitative and Quantitative research.
  • 6. Feedback on literature reviews.
  • 7. Research strategies.
  • 8. Methods for gathering qualitative data I.
  • 9. Methods for gathering qualitative data II.
  • 10. Methods for gathering quantitative data I.
  • 11. Feedback on research proposals.
  • 12. Qualitative data analysis.
  • 13. Consultations.

Teaching methods
Lectures, discussion, presentations, workshops, reading.
Individual consultations with supervisor, writing, feedback.
Assessment methods
Students are rewarded with a credit for participation in consultations and for active cooperation with their supervisors on the official assignment of the diploma thesis.
