Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
• understand and explain the origin and content of EU environmental law;
• work with information on various EU directives on environmental law;
• make reasoned decisions about the implications of EU environmental law for national law and policy;
• make deductions based on acquired knowledge of EU environmental law;
• interpret judgments of the Court of Justice EU on EU environmental law.

  • 1. Development and Legal Principles
  • 2. Implementation of EU Environmental Directives
  • 3. Environmental Law and the Internal Market
  • 4. Legal Protection and Environmental Law
  • 5. Overview of the most important EU Environmental Directives (EIA, Habitats, Environmental Liabilty, etc)
  • 6. Case study

Teaching methods
The format of the course is as follows: the first 45 min will be spent on lecturing according to the schedule mentioned above. At the second 45 min of class a recent judgment of the CJEU will be discussed.

open book, essay-style. students are requested to use a laptop for the exam and deliver their exam in PDF
