Course objectives
The course offers an overview of some important European schools of theoretical thinking in the field of literature science. Among the core topics are the function of literature, reception of literature and the literature canon. The second part of the course is devoted to practicing literary analysis of both poetry and prose. At the end of the course students will be able to use the Dutch literature terminology and to analyse specific literary theoretical issues in their historical contexts.
