Course objectives
The course is devoted to the selected epistemological problems, problems of philosophy of science, theory of science and methodology. * Historical forms of epistemological attitudes. * Question of truth and criterion of truth. * Problem of the possibility of knowledge, its ontological foundations. * Language and knowledge acquisition. * Construction and function of scientific theory. * Scientific methods. Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to delineate and analyse some basic problems; to present the most influential conceptions and approaches to solving these; to develop students` skills of critical thinking.

Teaching methods
1. Lecture 2. Homework - analyses of assigned texts on particular seminar topics, analyses are evaluated by the instructor. 3. The texts serve as a basis for seminar discussiion.
Assessment methods
Written examination consisting of 15 open questions focusing on the themes presented and discussed during seminars. Other requirements: acceptable attendance and class participation on the basis of presented texts and homework.
