Course objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to understand and explain key moments and events of Czech politics after 1989.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction; 2. Communist regime and society; 3. Charter 77 and opposition; 4. Birth of the Civic Forum; 5. Building of the new political regime; 6. Economic reform, privatisation and neoliberal Zeitgeist; 7. Lustrations; 9. Crises of the Czech-Slovak relationships; 10. Czech right-wing and left-wing parties and their leaders; 11. Evaluation of new Czech democracy.
