Course objectives

The aim of this course is to demonstrate various conceptions of world literature and to provide the students with the complex outline of both the synthetic and axiological conception of world literature from Antiquity up to the present day due to civilizational and cultural epochs in relation to other kinds of art. At the end of the course, the student will have the knowledge of the key evolutionary currents of world literature and of the most significant authors and works as well as of the development of the conception of world literature.

Teaching methods

The elementary teaching method is an additive and axiological conception of world literature, but, at the same time, the vision of synthetic and representational criteria in the sense of the stratification of world literature due to the cultural historical areas in which the specific position of Slavonic literatures is being looked for. The seminar focuses on the manifestation of the values which in the form of a canon and tradition affect the contemporary processes in literature by way of singular students' presentations and the following discussion.
