Course objectives
Having passed the course, students have insight into the world literature for youth, through partial studies of its development and in given sets of topics. They are able to interpret literary texts selected from the literature for youth with respect to its specificity.
Syllabus
  • 1. The concept of world literature for youth, possibilities of study. International institutions and organizations dealing with literature for children and youth. 2. The contribution of the English and French Enlightenment to literature for youth. 3. Folk fairy tale in various national literatures, the development of artificial fairy tale in the 19th century. 4. The development streams in the literature for youth in the 20th century. Selected representatives of the world literature for youth in the 20th century (Antoine de Saint Exupéry, Astrid Lindgren, Tove Jansson, Michael Ende, Jostein Gaarder).

Teacher´s lectures cover significant tendencies of the development; indipendent work with texts enhances students´interpretational skills.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: written assignment – a seminar paper of 3-5 pages (topics will be assigned during the first tutorial).
