Course objectives
The basic line of studies represents complex system view on submitted theories wtih incomposing of cultural – social and natural factors. The aim of studies is to stress the significancy of multifactor view on social phenomeons for purpose of their desription, explanation and prediction in the frame of educational reality. At the end of the course, the students will be able to: - Define the basic terms. - Explain the basics and structure of covered social and pedagogical theories. - Explain and interpret the topical social and pedagogical difficulties. - Outline the possibilities to solve the topical issues based on the reading and own experience. - Evaluate the importance of the topics covered for the theory and practice. - Explain and formulate the positions and values in the framework of the topics covered.

  • 1. Status of social sciences in the context of scientific paradigms (Winch). Structure of Scientific Revolutions (Kuhn). 2. Social Theory and its application in educational phenomena. Education as a non-science (Brezinka). Contemporary theories of education (Bertrand). 3. Theory of illiteracy (Liessmann), postmodern pedagogy. 4. Theory of modernity and social systems theory (Luhmann). 5. Constructionism, social construction of reality (Berger, Luckmann). Social supply and distribution of knowledge. Theories of social behavior everydayness Lebenswelt (Schütz), self-presentation (Goffman). 6. Critical theory (Marcuse, Horkheimer) theory of power, istitucionální power and biopower (Foucault), modi operandi, social critic (Kögler). 7. Poststructuralism, turn to language, discourse, discourse analysis, speech act theory (Austin). 8. Social media theory (Thompson), critical reading, writing, thinking. Theories of Mass Communication (Mc Quail). Dimensions of Social Change (Meyrowitz). 9. Theory of performativity (Butler) and postfeminism, gender. Theory recognition (Young). The concept of lived body (Butler). 10. Theory of education (cultural, social) reproduction (Katrňák), cultural capital, habitus (Bourdieu). 11. Theory of Social Justice (Rawls), the theory of equal access and social inequality. Discursive democracy (Habermas). Exclusion and inclusion. 12. Globalization (Giddens, Beck) and hyperkultura (Lipovetsky, Juvin).
