Course objectives
The goal of the course is to approach the issue of specific learning disabilities, etiology, methods of approach to children with SLD. Mention will be focused on approaches to reeducation individual disorders: dyslexia, dysgraphia, dysorthography, dyscalculia. Furthermore, personality development of pupil with SLD and approaches to pupils with SLD at primary and secondary school.
Student will learn basic terminology of this issue.
Syllabus
  • 1. Definition of specific learning disabilities. 2. Characteristics of individual disorders (reading, writing, arithmetic, drawing, musicality, dexterity). 3. Causes (etiology) of SLD. 4. Speeches of SLD, prevention of SLD. 5. Characteristics of minimal brain dysfunction (MBD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 6. Symptoms, speeches of MBD (ADD, ADHD). 7. Shortages of partial functions, screening of SLD. 8. Exploration (observation, analysis of students' work) in common class of primary school. School questionnaire. 9. Diagnosis of specific learning disabilities, diagnostic methods. 10. Education of pupils with SLD in the school system of the CR. 11. Legislation on the SLD. 12. Counseling services for pupils with SLD. 13. Evaluation and classification of pupils with SLD. 14. Education of pupils with SLD in common class of primary school. 15. Personality specifics of individuals with SLD (emotions, volitional qualities, expression, socialization). 16. Basic information about the reeducation of SLD.

Teaching methods
Seminar with active participation of students.
Assessment methods
Annotation of professional publication, whose topic will concern education of individuals with specific learning disabilites. Active participation in class (80 %). Written test - for successful completion of this course is required 75 % correct answers.
