- B1 level knowledge of English is required. The pre-intermediate student (B1) understands the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters. Can enter unprepared into conversation about familiar topics and connect ideas in a simple way. Can provide information, take messages, give simple instructions and deal with less routine problems, e.g. complaints. Can describe events, experiences, hopes and ambitions; give reasons, explanations of plans and opinions.

- Course objectives
- By means practically-oriented topics, students will develop all receptive (reading, listening) and productive (speaking, writing) language skills together with their grammar and vocabulary awarness within B2 level. Course objectives: 1) acquiring fundamental terminology related to the student's qualification/field of study(business English,technical English, English linked to providing services, English for special needs educators) and vocabulary related to a professional career; 2) B2 level grammar practice; 3) enhancing language skills (R, L, S, W); 4) practising presentation skills.
- Syllabus
- Consultation 1 Entrance B1 test. Home preparation: Where do you work? In-class material: Talking about English, jobs and career. (Discussing advantages and disadvantages of various professions. Speaking about the present/future job.) Grammar: Present simple, present continuous. Past simple, past continuous. Future in English.
- Consultation 2 Home preparation: Education and career. In-class section: My career. (Discussing qualities and skills needed for getting different jobs, interviews.) Grammar: Present perfect simple, present perfect continuous, passive forms, modals.
- Consultation 3 Home preparation: On the phone. Phone interview. Academic language: writing a formal letter, letter of complaint. In-class materials: Travel and travel problems. Business trips. Cultural differences. (Planning a business trip/itinerary. Practising situational language: Travel and travel problems. Eating out.) Grammar: Conditionals, articles, countable and uncountable nouns.
- Consultation 4 Home preparation: Money and finance. Consumerism. In-class section: Business meeting. Small talk. Having a foreign visitor to your company/organization. Grammar: A, some, any, no; reported speech, prepositional phrases.
- Consultation 5 Home preparation: Problems at work. Workplace safety. In-class materials: Work environment. Oral presentations. Grammar: Transitional expressions, phrasal verbs.

- Teaching methods
- Consultations in the form of seminars designed for teaching English for specific and academic purposes (activities developing students' awarness of language skills and systems within B2 level - independent reading and listening tasks; grammar and vocabulary practice, discussions and presentations, e-learning for grammar and vocabulary practice etc.
- Assessment methods
- Level B2 language course. Credit requirements: 1) Attendance and active participation in consultations (one absence due to serious reasons is acceptable). 2) Completed assigned units/grammar exercises. 3) Oral presentation. 4) Meeting deadlines. 5) Final exam: A) Written test + special terminology: listening (14 marks), reading (12 marks), use of English (20 marks), writing (14 marks), terminology (10 marks). Total: 70 marks. PASS MARK: 65% (45 marks). B)Oral part 1) monologue (introducing student's field of study) - 1 minute + 2) spoken interaction between two students - 6 minutes. Total: 30 marks; PASS MARK = 65 % (20 marks). Student, který nesplní požadavky 1) až 4) nemůže skládat zkoušku z tohoto předmětu! Ústní část zkoušky mohou absolvovat výhradně ti studenti, kteří splní její písemnou část! Only those students who have successfully passed a written part can sit for an oral part of the exam!
