Course objectives

Student should be able to analyze and classify the work of discussed authors; student should be able to explain the term "avant-garde" using the knowledge of inter-war modernism context.

Syllabus

• Lectures will follow two aspects of the phenomenon of Avant-garde: historical (1) and theoretical (2)
• ad 1:
• Expressionism, Dada, Futurism, Constructivism and Functionalism, Surrealism; its local versions (Suprematism, Artificielism, etc.)
• ad 2:
• mass culture and commodification, movement and "durée", revolution and politisation,reduction and economisation, discourse and institutionalization.
