Course objectives
The goal of the course is to introduce students to the legal forms of selected legal branches and elementary concepts and principles of legal forms facilitating orientation in the regulations of public and private law. These skills should help students understand the interconnectedness of legal regulations as well as national and communitarian system law.
A further goal of the course is to give an overview of the basic terms, principles and laws characterizing market mechanism and comprising the content of economic theory on macro and microeconomic level. On the basis of a definition of Neoclassical-Keynesian economic system, its fundaments and context, students will be able to understand and predict some changes in economic processes typical for free-market economy.
Syllabus
  • 1. Due to the time schedule of the instruction, Introduction to Law is framed as a guide through the basic characteristics and ways of regulation of the legal system of the Czech Republic (CR). The following concepts defined in legal theory and used in particular legal disciplines will be covered: 2. Basic characteristics and types of legal norms and legal normative acts. 3. Legal relations and their elements, legal acts including the preconditions of their validity, legal consequences of an invalid legal act. 4. The system of public law with an emphasis on the object, principles and ways of legal regulation. 5. Constitutional law, its object, sources and ways of legal regulation. The relationship between and the importance of the Constitution and The Declaration of Human Rights and their effect on the legal standing of the citizens of Czech Republic. 6. Financial and administrative law, its object, sources and ways of legal regulation. 7. The basic institutions of criminal law, i.e., crime, types of crime and punishment, special regulation for the punishment of adolescents. 8. The system of private law, its object, principles, ways of legal regulations and relations to other regulations of private law. 10. Commercial law, object, principles, legal regulation and relation to civil law. 11. Basic intstitutions of labor law: employment, work assessment, working hours, vacation, work based on agreements, law, obligation of employees and employers, liability for damage, youth work terms, the importance of trade unions, Board of Employees, European Board of Employees. 12. Basic institutions of family law, the conditions of innitiation and termination of marriage, the determination of fatherhood, adoption and foster care, types of child support, social and legal protection of children.
  • 13. Introduction to economy is focused on interpretation of elementary principles and processes of general economic theory on both macro and micro levels. The main focus will be on contemporary Neoclassical-Keynesian model of the basis and relationships between economic events relevant to free-market economy. 14. The preliminary instruction in economic theory comprises the definition of elementary economic terms and regularities characterizing market mechanism. 15. The role and forms of competition in relation to perfect and imperfect competitive market including the role of state and its measures taken regarding the protection of economic competition. 16. Analysis of financial market, i.e. money market and capital market. Financial market and the role of money in economy including its form, functions and defects. 17. The role of banks and their influence on the overall stock of money, the role of Central Bank and its place in the bank system, tools and aims of monetary politics. 18. International monetary systems including convergence criteria of the admission to European Monetary Union, external monetary stability and its influence on the balance of payments. 19. Capital market and its forms, i.e. public and non-public market with equities. Types and function of equities. 20. Macro-economic models of the functioning of national economy, macroeconomic categories such as GNP, GDP quantifying economic processes and their use in international comparison and classification of countries into developed and developing economies. Basis and factors influencing economic growth and economic cycles. 21. Macroeconomic, i.e. economic policy, its kinds, goals, tools and measures. 22. International economic integration, its forms and influence on world economy. 23. Market of goods and services, theory of marginal utility and the behavior of consumer on the market of goods and services, job market and unemployment. 24. Theory of company, production, cost and profit.
