Interest in the study of the Landscape and its shape, knowledges about the Landscape on the level of a good secondary school.

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: identify landscape types and unique features of individual Landscapes;
evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of respective Landscapes for special use by means of SWOT analysis and Slowak metodology LANDEP;
The main part of the course is dedicated to Landscape shape and its legislative protection. Students should be able to: identify architectonical styles and their influence to the folk art architecture;
identify types of villages and organization of their fields and meadows;
discuss and aply two Czech present-day methods for evaluation of Landscape shape (Vorel et al., Lőw et al.) and new approach to this;
identify and analyze values, problems and possibilities of respective Landscapes, level of conservation of old man-made landscape structures.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction. Why and how we need to study Landscapes. 2-5. Natural elements in the Landscape and its shape. 6-7. Antropogenous modification of the Landscape, its history. 8. Architectonical styles and their influence on the village architecture. 9. Types of villages and organization of their agricultural landscape. 10. Distiguishing of the Landscape localities and regions. 11-12. Method of evaluation of landscape old features (Lőw et al.) + Method of evaluation of proposed constructions and activities impact on the Landscape shape (Vorel et al). 12. Landscape Typology of the Czechia. 13. Composed artificial landscapes (lecture of Assoc. Prof. A. Salašová from MZLU). 14. Method LANDEP, SWOT analysis. 15. Legislation and the protection of the Landscapes (European Agreement on Landscape, Czech act No. 114/92 Sb.).

Teaching methods
Lectures are held with help of powerpoint presentations. Seminars consist of identifying of field and meadows organization types and discussions above project of external experts and students projects. Target of four seminars is identifying of architectonical styles during excursions in city of Brno.
Assessment methods
Oral exam with possibility of written preparation. Evaluation of the seminar project gives cca 30% of the final mark, but the exam is necessary to fulfil on level "E" anyway.
