Course objectives
Anatomy, histology and physiology of the periodontium. Etiology, epidemiology and genetic aspects of the parodontopathies. Classification of the parodontopathies. Clinical aspects of the parodontopathies: gingivitis, periodontitis, atrophy of the periodontium. Parodontopathy in children. Objective and X-ray examination of the periodontium. Diagnosis of the parodontopathies and their determination, the therapeutic plan. Therapy of the gingival and periodontal tissue: hygiene phase - professional removing and controlling of the plaque, occlusal trauma, corrective phase - scaling, root planing, periodontal surgery, principles of the plastic mucogingival and preprosthetic surgery, guided tissue and bone regeneration. Clinical method that regenerates the supporting structures of the teeth and the bone of an alveolus, which is destroyed by periodontitis must allow the soft periodontal ligaments to be covered during the healing stage of operation wound of the root surface, which must be isolated at that time from the epithelium and gingival fibrous tissue with a barrier membrane. This new approach of reconstructive periodontal therapy was called GTR (Guided Tissue Regenation). Following the biological principe sof GTR new koncept called GBR (Guided Bone Regeneration) was introduced. Mechanical barriers in early stage of the healing period together with multiplication of the osteogenic cells are the basic principles of this method. The membrane is placed above the bone defect and separates the fast growing soft tissue from the bone. Resorbable membranes Bio Gide and supporting material Bio Oss are use dat the Periodontology Dept. of Clinic of Dentistry. In recent years this approach has been modified by using PRP (Platelet – Rich – Plasma) which contain high percentage of growth factors and is called tissue engineering. Growth factors are able to induce and support the reparation and regeneration of the tissue. These terapeutical approaches are presented in theoretical lectures and in practical demonstrations in the operation theatre.
