Course objectives
The students acquire a basic competence in the syntax of contemporary Czech language syntax. The lecture provide theory for the work in the seminary ZS1BP_CjC3. After ending this course:
1. Students take their bearing in the syntactical theory.
2. Students know the terminology of the syntax (sentence, compound sentence, complex sentence, constituents/members of sentence, syntactical relatins);
3. Students are able to explain the modality of sentence / enuntiation.
4. Students are able to explain the structure of the sentence, complex sentence and compound sentence.
Syllabus
  • 1. Sentence and utterance. Modality of the sentence.
  • 2. Negation in the syntax. Sentence with negation and sentence without negation. Types of negation in the Czech language. Irregularities in the syntactical structure. Word-order.
  • 3. Syntactical relations, their utterance.
  • 4. Elements of the sentence.
  • 5. Sentence, complex sentence and compound sentence. Sentence and clause. Compound sentence. Co-ordination.
  • 6. Complex sentence. Sub-ordination.
  • 7. Valence, the grammatical structure of the sentence.
