Course objectives
Demography (DEMO) The aim of this course is to introduce to students the phenomena and processes, connected with both natural reproduction of population and with the spatial movement of population, i.e. with migration. Population represents one of the most important economic categories, the understanding of which through demographic indicators and demographic analysis is a significant precondition for the successful work of the economist. The content is divided into these topics: definitions of basic concepts, partial demographic disciplines and interdisciplinary links; basic information sources about the population, demographic data and indicators; population structure analysis (according to age, sex, nationality and other social and economic features); analysis of population processes - natural and mechanical movements of population; the population reproduction mode and its consequences (population development in this country and worldwide); population theory and politics; population estimates and projections. Credit requirements: seminar essay. Examination: written test, oral exam.
