Course objectives
In the course of the course the student will obtain information on the role of nutrition in the prenatal and postnatal development of a person. Part of the lectures will be devoted to the influence of mother's nutrition in pre-pregnancy, pre-natal development (pre-natal development). Another block of lectures will focus on nutrition in the postnatal period of human development, focusing on the relationship between nutrition and growth, on the quality of nutrition and its influence on the child's organism, the role of nutrition and its social role, the relationship between nutrition and cognitive function. Teaching will also focus on diet, changes in nutritional behavior in pubesence and adolescence, their risks, eating disorders, the role of nutrition in a sporting child and the occurrence of food allergies in children. A successful graduate will have a detailed knowledge of the role of nutrition in the context of biololgic human changes during life.
Learning outcomes
1. Understand the differences in nutritional needs in the various phases of human life;
2. Explain the nutritional requirements of the organism within the period;
3. Identify key nutritional needs, deviations from recommendations, risks of nutrient deficiency;
4.improve the differences in nutritional needs at different times of life;
5. Explain nutritional needs for different population groups, including minority population groups.

  • The importance of mother's nutritional behavior to the unborn child.
  • Programming.
  • Risks of improper nutrition of the mother during breastfeeding.
  • Importance of individual nutrients in the period of 5-12 months.
  • Nutrition in 1-3 years.
  • Nutrition in pre-school and younger school age.
  • Nutrition in adolescence, risks of alternative nutritional guidelines.
  • The importance of nutrition and the quality of life in old age.
  • Nutrition of minority groups.
  • Nutrition of minority groups - mentally handicapped.
  • Risks of improper nutrition in seniors and weakened individuals.
  • Critical reading and tracking of popular literature in the field of nutrition.
  • Lecture of a nutritionist specialist on nutrition of a selected population group. Seminars will practically verify the acquired information from the lectures

Assessment methods
Obligatory attendance at teaching. Two excused absences are allowed. 3x continuous test - 10 questions, maximum 30 points, for successful completion at least 22 points. 3 homework. Presentation of critical reading of professional and popular literature. Exam Written. 40 questions - both open and test. Maximum 60 points. To achieve a minimum of 45 points.
