Course objectives
The subject is drawn as a basic insight view to the question of European Integration. It is aimed to explain the political development of the EU, its institutions, policy and the enlargement process. It is meant for students, who want to acquire basic knowledge of this supranational international organization. The main objectives of the course are: to understand the basic turning-points of the EU development including the actual situation, to analyze the institutional structure of the EU, to gain knowledge about the functioning of the fundamental EU policies and to understand the process of the EU enlargement.
  • The subject is divided into several blocks: I. History of the European Integration, overview of the basic treaty frameworks (Zdeněk Sychra, Markéta Pitrová, Markéta Pitrová; II. Institutions of EU, their functioning, decision making process (Petr Kaniok); III. Common policies, chosen coordination policies, financing of EU (Zdeněk Sychra, Zdeněk Sychra, Zdeněk Sychra); IV. Enlargement of EC/EU, strategies and approaches (Markéta Pitrová, Zdeněk Sychra)

Teaching methods
The course is based on lectures, powerpoint presentations and individual work with the study recourses. It is presumed that student will used interactive outline of the course(accesible via is.muni.cz).
Assessment methods
written test: the exam will consist of 40 closed questions (multiple choice) and oneopen questions. For passing the test the student needs at least 60 %. The exam is held in the facilities of the IS MU – electronical test.
